I have a 2010 diesel note. Under the bonnet secured to the front cross brace in the centre (near the radiator filler) is a small electrical box, approx 50x8x6mm with 2 electrical cables coming from it. Any suggestions as to what this is?

Apart from a bomb(Sneaky Hefalump suggestion), it may the sensor to show your bonnet isn't closed properly.

Lift the bonnet, and start the engine, and see what warning lights come on, with all other doors firmly closed. (Don't drive off like that, though).

There is one on my 1.6 auto too, a little box in the centre of the slam panel.
I think it is a crash sensor.
If you don't notice that the car has crashed, the sensor will detect it.

As to what it does, no idea, I thought the accelerometers are under the handbrake for deploying the air bags.
