Car due to go into Wessex Nissan again 15 April!! Done some research and there has been a bulletin issued by Nissan stating that when the high level brake light unit is removed for any reason a new rubber seal should be fitted. Failure to do this could result in water ingress. This is not mentioned in the vehicle handbook in the section setting out the procedure for changing the light bulb. Think that Wessex have not done the job properly in the past. Will provide update in due course.

I took mine off yesterday to investigate my water leak. The foam seal was so firmly stuck to both the lamp and the bodywork that it was virtually destroyed and I had to fashion a replacement from some thin foam that I found in the garage, though I'm not hopeful of it sealing well.

I'd be interested to find out if the seal is readily available as a spare part.

New seal is available as a spare part. Foam rubber with adhesive both sides. Have been told to ensure that surface of the light fitting is completely clean before fitting new seal and replacing fitting.
