Hi all. I've recently bought a nice looking 2011 1.4 ntec. After a month of enjoyable driving I've started to notice an occasional knocking which appears to on the offside front/middle. Its most noticeable at lower speeds and when coasting. Can't detect anything at higher speeds. It's speed varies with the car speed until about 50-60 then disappears. Engine and gearbox sound and feel fine. Fortunately under warranty so booked into garage. I've read about the subframe mounting issues which can be hard to detect. Fingers crossed they find something!

Subframe mounting disasters only normally affect the E11 1.6 auto.

Probably one or more of the rubbish-quality bushes has worn out.

If you are lucky it will only be the rubbish bushes that need replacing.

If you are unlucky the top engine mount will have ripped through the paper-thin inner wing.

Use forum search for more details on the latter, not an easy, pleasant or cheap job I'm afraid.
