Hi

I have noticed over the last few weeks how many cars which are no more than 6/7 years old have badly faded or discoloured front lights. Is this something that is happening to anyones note? It can be an mot failure and only solution would be a new headlight unit. I've noticed it on everything from Micras and focus's to Passats and even a couple of Lexuses (Lexi?)

Many thanks

It is because modern plastics are not resistant to UV light like the non-ecofriendly old ones were.

It doesn't help that aftermarket bulbs often don't have a UV filter and produce significant amounts of UV that can exacerbate the problem. (Especially the "blue/white" ones)

My suzuki has a noticable white tinge to the headlamp lenses, still MOTs alright though.

Ive read about that with some headlamps on other models. But for that it was the plastic "yellowing" a bit on the surface. Remedy for that was giving them a clean with toothpaste !!
Another person suggested "Brasso" metal polish !!!!
