Hi guys, over the last week or so I have started to notice a rattling, vibrating and almost tinny sound coming from underneath the car, moreaudiblewhen starting up and less noticable when on the move. I have a feeling it's somethingassociated with the exhaust, any ideas?

Also the alloy wheels are flaking off quite badly in places exposing the bare alloy and it looks all chalky and corroded, worse in the wheel nut holes. Is this common on notes?

Thanks you

Hi,Noise- this could be a heat shield or part of the exhaust it self. I would take to an good exhaust place and ask them to look at it, or get under the car and look yourself.

Wheels - I have had the same issue with one of mine and the car was not two years old and only done 23k. replaced under warranty. When looking for a Note I did see a number of them with bad wheels. Think it could be a common issue.

Hi, the exhaust does seem to emit some noises different to normal running conditions when first started from cold, unless it's excessive I wouldn't worry, mine is more noticeable the colder it gets as do the interior creaks and rattles of the plastics on poorly surfaced roads. Another source of start up squeks etc is a damp auxilliary belt but that should disappear within 10 metres unless it's slack. As to the wheels I haven't seen a Note without those symptoms, it's made down to a price!

regards

Thanks guy, Think I'll let the nissan garage sort the noise out, I bought it in September from J Edagr & son with 12 months warranty, perhaps they will fix it under that?

The wheel corrosion is annoying, I may look into a refurb. Been looking on ebay at used notes and quite a few with close up wheel shots do have the same symptoms.

re wheel corrosion - had mine replaced under warranty and second set are going the same way. Enquired about having them replaced again and was told that I would have to meet Nissan half way on replacement costs !!

Will be looking at getting them refurbed at a specialist wheel centre when it gets too bad - this is obviously a quality issue. My wife`s Corsa is 10 years old now and although the wheels have had a few scrapes, there does'nt appear to be any of the "bubbling" type corrosion as on the Note.

Talking about corrosion on the wheels, the silver paint and lacquer are very thin on Note alloys so it's no surprise that they go a bit scabby after a while. As Dave says, built to a price.
