Schedule for 4-year service plan (12 - 16)

Hi all

What is the service plan schedule now (2016)? Is it M1-M2-M3-M1 or Minor-Major-Minor-Major?

My E11 Note came with a four-year service plan, and I've just the last one, which I expected to be a major service.

Booked in the service a week ago, told them it's my fourth service with +36000 miles. They said, "Yea, it's a major service. Oil, filters and brake fluid will be changed. These will be covered by your service plan." Great.

At the garage: Before dropping the keys, I ran through the list of things for a major service with the dealer guy. No problem.

Picked up the car after three hours. Turned out they've done a minor service, i.e. oil change only. Why? "Our system says your car only needs a minor service."
"My car haven't had a major service yet."
"You should have had one 2 years ago."
"OK, can you find that service record on your system?"
"Oh, we changed to a new system a year ago so anything before that isn't kept. The hard copies are in our archive in Newport."

As far as I know, there hasn't been a major service done to date, they've only done oil change for the past four years! If the plan didn't come with the car then I'd have gone to indy garage/DIY.

Anyway, this one should have been a major because the last one definitely wasn't. Feel like being cheated. Why do I have to go through this? Why can't dealers have the basic decency of a human being?

Sorry about my ranting. Appreciate if anyone can shed some light.

. I found out after that they don't even remove your rear drums, as they only do an external visual check, so they don't clean out any brake dust or anything. Then I got this notification that my rear brakes required adjustment. You would have thought a major service (which is a major price) would have covered the mechanic to remove the rear drums and adjustment. Nissan don't think it's a necessity to remove the drums. <div abp="1217">
My Notes a 2011 diesel with 34,000 odd miles on the clock, but at 36,000 miles, the fuel filter requires replacing, but they could not be bothered to do it. So my Notes got to go another year with the old filter (well that's how Nissan feel). I'll get it changed at my localindependent garage along with the next services.

How can I check if the brake/coolant fluids have been changed?

Story continues: I noticed an old service record has a checklist that goes up to the seventh service.

So, I went back to the dealer and pointed out exactly what they should have done (short of calling them a cheat out loud).

They agreed to do a major service (for free I assume). Weirdly, they were reluctant to change the cabin filter! I told them it costs peanuts and if they give me the part I'd just do it myself. I finally pinned them down to change the brake fluid, air filter and cabin filter. They would also change coolant fluid, which I didn't ask for but I don't mind if it's free...

Now, I can mark the filters but how can I tell if they've changed the fluids?

You can't, which is why you simply do it yourself and not only save hundreds of pounds and hours of you time, but you know it has been done properly.

I had an email from Nissan Service, who would do a minor service on my car oil, oil filter, sump plug and windscreen washer top up for ÂŁ149!

However, if it was electric, it is only ÂŁ99 as they don't even change the oil & filter.
Just what do they do for ÂŁ99 then? top up the washer with angels tears?

To be fair, I do believe that they do things like count the wheels, check if the tyres are bald, see if the brake pads are worn out (so they can suggest you pay them to fit new discs & pads), check the lights work and oil the hinges, but these are all things you do yourself anyway*, so why pay Nissan ÂŁ100 to check them again?

*oiled the tailgate hinges last week, lovely and quiet now, but they are only what looks like a couple of 3" nails knocked through the brackets. I assume they are hardened, but 2 minute hinges to support all that weight?
