In April I inherited my late father's 2012 Nissan note. I love her and am really enjoying my driving. This week with the hot weather the Sat Nav has been showing an error message regarding the SD card. I'm totally new to sat nav technology so does this message mean I need to replace the card ? Or (daft question) could it be due to the heat as the car was parked in full sun ?

What is the message? There is some times a message about replacing/ updating card. Take the SD card out and put it back in . See how that pans out

The message says No map SD card inserted - use Nissan SD card only. I will find out how to remove it out it back again. My dad never used the Sat Nav at all so I don't know if this may have happened before.Thank you for your help.

Just a light push should release card .check that terminals on card are clean .the heat of the last week could have loosened the card in its slot gently reinsert card in slot. It is situated on the lower part to the right of the Connect unit

Cleaning the contacts on the card usually helps, if the car has been sat for a while dust and moisture can build up

Sat navvproblem

My unit gives me a message that no sat nav card is inserted - oh yes it is!! This is a 2013 model - does the SD card need replacing perhaps? Hardly used the system, so can’t believe it’s faulty - Nissan are quoting me £1500 to replace the unit?
Have tried removing/ replacing the card, gently cleaning the terminals/contacts, checking for dogs hairs etc!

The Connect system was built down to a VERY low price (despite this Nissan will try to charge you £15-1800 to replace it.)

It is actually a Bosch unit (the Bosch LCN - Low Cost Navigation) and is terribly sensitive to heat - which, of course, is why Nissan fitted it above the ruddy heater! Mine was replaced twice in three years - thankfully under warranty.

You could try another SD card but if the unit is knackered any good audio specialist will supply and fit a more reliable and more functional unit for around a third of the Connect replacement price.
