Hi all, ive read a few posts already in reguards to replacement batterys but would like a little advice, ive had my nissan E12 for 4 years now (its a 2014 so 5 years old total) but it still has the origanal battery which ive now noticed that while it still starts fine (first time every time) the lights are dim until i rev then they brighten up quite a lot then dim as i idle until the engine has run a while when they stay bright all the time so im looking to replace the battery, while in halfords i found the yuasa hsb013 which looks a fine battery (https://www.halfords.com/motoring/bulbs-blades-batteries/car-batteries/yuasa-hsb013-silver-12v-car-battery-5-year-guarantee) however i also found out they now sell stop/start batterys (https://www.halfords.com/motoring/bulbs-blades-batteries/car-batteries/halfords-efb013-start-stop-efb-12v-car-battery-5-year-guarantee?_br_psugg_q=013+battery)

having read a post on here about how the auto needs a efb battery i was thinking of getting the halfords own label one however i have the manual 1.5 diesel my question is simple should i stick with the standard but high powered yuasa or would i be better off with the stop/start one, bearing in mind as far as i can tell the battery thats in it from new is a regular battery (put it this way i carnt find anything on it to say its a efb one).

Also does anyone have experiance with halfords own label batterys? i had one in my very old 206 (before i got a 207...... BIG mistake!!!) but only had that car for 3 months after fitting so carnt comment on how it lasted.

Does it have start-stop?

If it doesn't, you want a Yuasa YBX5027, (get it from Tayna dot co do uk) as this is the same part as the Halfords branded HBS013, Tayna will deliver one for £87.

A start-stop, or EFB battery can stand being discharged a few times, whilst a "normal" battery is designed to just start the car and stay charged up.

The cheaper equivalent is the YBX3027 (I have one on my 1,6 auto) which is £75 delivered, not really worth saving £12 tbh.

Yuasa dot co dot uk have a battery finder to look up the correct one.

EDIT: I just looked at tayna, they have the EFB equivalent, the YBX7027 for £82- Bargain!, I'd get one of those, they are good for 270,000 starts, which is about 250,000 more than the ring gear will take :)

I'll chip in as a former (chartered) engineer who specialised in batteries and battery charging circuits.

If you have start stop you need an AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) battery.

The charging circuit (without going deep into the technicalities, is different from a conventional battery.

An AGN battery will have a lifespan of around 4-5 years before it needs replacement.

Yes i do have the start stop system (all E12's do dont they??) as for cost i dont care about finding the cheapest i just want one that is reliable and wont let me down when im 500 miles away from home.

I have never heard of AGM batt's and altho halfords do them they dont in the notes size (typical!) so will go hunting, will have a look at tayna one as well.

Thank you both :)

EuroCarParts will have the right battery.

Typically, had you asked this question three days ago they were supplying all batteries at 50% off in a flash sale.

I bet they weren't the same price as they are today though, to discount by 50%

Oh and Yuasa say the YBX7027 is a stop-start battery.

Actually they were, it was a genuine 50% discount as I picked up a new battery for my neighbour for her Mazda 6 after I told her about the 'flash sale'.

@Kenny
Go to eurocarparts.com and put your reg number in and see if it brings up the same battery, If it does then you're good to go.
EDIT

Just looked myself and they don't have that battery on sale.

Andy, do you have a battery depot near you, if so go and ask them for the correct battery for your Note, you do say your not bothered about the price. Whether it be a "Yuasa" or not, it will have a 3 - 5 year warranty with it. Don't worry about how many times a certain battery can start an engine. When you purchase a new motor that has either a 3 or 5 year warranty, the car manufacturer only gives a 1 year warranty on the battery.
So if you purchase the cheapest battery suitable for your car, you will get the yearly warranty that that battery manufacturer gives.

not according to google no altho there is one in newcastle witch is just an hour away (nice drive actually), its not a name i have heard before. had a word with the local main dealer and was quoted £250 fully fitted and all they would tell me was a battery id of 24410 jd22a which google then recommends a 075 size

yuasa.co.uk recommend 3 differant ones as well /sigh

seriously how can they make this so fustrating??

Im tempted to just let the thing die then get the missues out with her AA membership and let them deal with it.

Hi Andy
Like yourself i have been looking at a replacement battery, i have a 2014 note diesel stop start, the battery i have been looking at is a
027 mutlu agm stop start you can get this off the (battery guys on the internet delivered for £104.99) they haven't got them in stock at the moment but when i asked the question they said they expected them to be in on Friday, and ive been told by some friends this battery should fit straight into the note, i have never heard of mutlu battery's before but after doing some checking they are a big company in turkey that have been making batterys for quite a number of years. so i will probably order one of these at the weekend
Hope this helps you

Yuasa only recommend the ybx7096 for the 1.5 dCi 90 Diesel (I think this is what you have) it is 278mm long

Three different grades of the same size of battery, ybx 3027, 5027 or 7027 for the 1.5 Diesel (7027 for a stop/start model) it is 242mm long

So you either want the 7096 if you have the 1.5dCi 90 or the 7027 if you have the 1.5 diesel. Measure the length of your existing battery, the 278mm one probably won't go in the tray for a 242mm one.

Easy option is just to go to a garage and give them a sack of money to source and fit a battery. Then if it sets on fire or something they can sort it out.

When looking for a battery for your motor is the positions of the terminals. If you purchase a battery with the same measurements make sure the terminals are in the correct position when fitted, as the battery leads on your motor will not reach.
