I assume you mean the door stay, which prevents the car door from opening too far back on itself.?

They make a right old row when they're dry. Do as Flash says.......a small smidge of grease will do nicely.

Or, even better, PTFE spray.

Couple of quid at most bike shops (or plumbers merchants) and invaluable in your toolbox IMHO.

Do you mean the hatch as in boot lid?
Mine has started to make a loud noise when I open it quickly.
I think it is one of the gas struts, as I tried a drip of oil on the hinges.

I too have been suffering with a clunky check strap on a rear door which has been improved with a smear of grease. The tailgate has a loud creak when opening. Engine oil on the hinges, the gas strut ball and socket joints and a smear on the sliding connecting rod has done little to improve it. I have not had a chance to investigate further but I have a feeling the gas struts are to blame. Maybe take them off and put a smear of silicone grease in the locating sockets will help.
