new to this so bear with me
has anybody tried to slow down anoying fast tickover when cold on 1.6 petrol

It should sit at 1200-1500 on a cold start then settle down to around 8-900rpm once warm

and it's all done by the ECU and fly by wire throttle

Mines the same, starts up then runs at around 1800-200, then slows down to around 1000-1200 after a minute or so. The 61 plate auto 1.6 courtesy car was the same.

thanks for the replies guys
so there is no cure for what i consider so wastful & unnecesary
vw dont have this same fastickover problem

It's all about the CAT and leads to faster warm up times and therefore less waste overall.

It's not wasteful, it improves emissions. Unless you think spewing more NOX than necessary isn't wasteful, of course.
