Hi guys, our friend called on us the other day as they just bought a Chevy Matiz and knowing that my wife has one wanted to check it over and do a little service on it. Anyway as we were working through the jobs we unscrewed the air filter box and to our amazement there was no air filter in there. What we found was 2 ladies tights cut to size one bound onto the intake pipe and the other on the pipe to the engine both held on tight by cable ties and rubber bands. The filter box itself was really very clean with no debris. My question is is this ok or would it have done some damage to the engine?
The car goes like at bat outta hell without it compared to my wife's by the way!!!
Thanks Izzy

It may run a little lean, but I would definately recommend sticking in the proper air filter.

There is a possibilty that the tights, or bits of them, could be sucked down the inlet. I tried that trick on my old Ford Anglia, and that's what happened........luckily it just jammed the carb up.
