As usual, my 63 plate Note passed it's MOT last December without fuss.
However on the certificate it stated an advisory.
'Drive shaft rubber boot severely damaged but not allowing ingress of dirt' N/S inner.
So during this fine weather i decided to change it. Taking off the N/S wheel i inspected the boot with a high power lamp.
It was perfect. Aha i thought, they must of meant the O/S one... I checked that too and it too was unblemished. Going on, i checked all other gaiters.. Outers and steering ones without any faults showing. Maybe I'm cynical but i reckon they looked at me (old father time) and assumed i wouldn't have a scoobies what to look for.
Yet i was replacing C. V boots before those mot guys were born. Sadly I think poor garage practice is still very much alive and kicking.
I'll ask to be shown any such 'damage/wear' in future before i leave the garage.

They did not charge for replacement, or they replaced in order that you passed MOT. They did that on my Mitsubishi lancer in February for a very fair price, still wrote the remark. Which is very correct. And they should really.
