A few weeks ago I filled up my tank from half to full.

It took about 50 km till the fuel level gauge went up from half to full.

A few days agoI filled up my tank from half to full again.

The fuel level gauge went up from half to full immediately.

But the display that shows the distance to an empty tank showed about 300 km and went up slowly to about 400 km during my journey of about 180 km with some interrupts.

Has anybody noticed this behaviour too?

What can be the reason?

looks like the float is sticking, the system uses the fuel level and average consumption (over about the last 5<10 miles)to project the miles to empty figure, so if the float is sticking and gives a false level reading the miles to empty will be out but when the float actualy gives a true reading it self corrects the miles to empty.

after lots of around town driving during the week it gives me say 110miles to empty but as I do about 10 miles on the motorway as part of a much longer journey, the miles to empty slowly increases, I have even returned with more miles to go than i left with but that soon changes when back to town driving.

Thank you for your answer.

The second time, the float was not sticking for sure, because the pointer of the fuel level control was at "full" after filling up.
