Anyone know what it could be .only the bumper was taken off & replace battery & tailgate not touch

Usually if anything on the tailgate stops working it's down to the wires that pass through the rubber boot between the tailgate and the car body at the top of the tailgate.
One or more wires could have broken apart,and if your car is like others, then all the wires will be coloured white just to make things harder.

Thanks that was the frist thing I look at . Plus tailgate was not removed
Back to the garage tomorrow for them to repair leave it for them to sort out ?

The wires in the rubber boot wear due to normal wear and tear,so they can break.
Not only that but the wires can be broken inside the outer plastic sheathing and they look ok. Only way to be sure is to test them with a continuity meter or similar device.
