Well, we are back from our 4 month sojourn on Crete and am I glad we took my Picasso and not the SWMBO's Note.We got to Germany OK and did our 2nd refuel. We'd noticed on the way down fuel stations had sans plomb e10 (95), so filled the Picasso up as it was the cheapest fuel we'd seen in Germany.
Well, to cut a long story short, we just about managed to get the car to Seefeld (our destination in Austria), where the car threw a hissy fit and wouldn't start.
Eventually had to call out the local garage and got a Euro200 bill to drain the tank, flush the whole system through and get parts ( Filter/Plugs) especially sent down from Innsbruch. We then had a mad 4 hour dash down to Venice in pouring rain to catch the ferry.
Anyway, just wondered if the 1.4 Note would have coped with this wrong type of fuel?

Most UK unleaded is 95 Octane, so not really the wrong fuel.
Sounds like the fuel you purchased was either mislabeled 91(common in Greece)Octane or contaminated.

A bit more checking reveals E10 to be a 'blend' of 95 octane and corrosive ethanol, and that mixing in a 'bit more' ethanol (cheaper) is quite common. Thre was, apparently a spate of this in France a couple of years ago. It's no wonder you had problems
