I've just retro-fitted a connect to my 57 plate Acenta and rather than splashing loads of cash on the 'correct' surround and top cubby moulding I thought I'd just try fitting the USB/AUXsocket facing upwards into the existing one.
While I can see that a 'normal' USB cable or memory stick won't fit and still allow the door to close, I've a couple of alternatives.

In my 'bits drawer' I found a couple of these 'micro' USB memory sticks:

They don't have the normal metal surround or housing and as a result are much smaller than standard usb sticks.

As you can see they fit perfectly into my new top cubby USB socket and I can still close the door.

The other option is that I just ordered (from China!) a couple of right-angle USB adaptors:

I suspect that I may need to turn the USB socket around in its housing, but this adaptor should let me plug in a USB cable or a 'normal' memory stick.

EDIT: I've just found this one which is actually better suited as it doesn't look like I'll need to move the socket around:

I've bought a few small low-cost items from these people before without any problems.

Hope that helps someone!
George

if you turn that around 90º so the usb faces towards you, the arc of the lid will give you a bit of extra room
