Hi folks.

I have just had my car serviced. Note - 1.5dci. FULL SERVICE.

Does the Diesel fuel filter need changing @ 60,000km. ‚¬37.83c (about £30).

The engine oil has gone from fully synthetic 10w40(‚¬19) to 5w30(‚¬27.50)......I assume this is getting ready for winter.???

The price is fine, so no real grumbles.

Yes, the Diesel filter needs changed at 60,000kms or approx 37,500 miles.

At our garage we would only use 10w40 unless the vehicle has DPF where we would use the specialist 5w30 DPF oil.

Thanks Mark. Yes, is 5w30 oil, for DPF.

Which now makes me wonder, why have they used 10w40 in the past. Would that oil do damage to the DPF.??

It's Ok, I phoned them up. Oil previously used was Shell Helix Diesel Ultra 5w30 on all previous services.

Todays service oil was Genuine Nissan.

They also use Castrol Edge 5w30.

Which was probably the cheapest standards-compliant bulk oil, but in a nice container

Can't find anything on UK sites but the Australian 'rumour mill' is that it's Castrol. That, of course, may only be for their market. Probably/ possiblyone of the 'aggregators' who produce and package for the independents.

Even I (who works for a Main Dealer) is unsure who makes the Nissan Oil but chances are it is a well known brand just in Nissan packaging. As for Oil grades, the DPF requires a low ash content oil ofwhich the 5w30 is speacially formulated for, if another grade of oil is used there is a risk of damaging the DPF and associated components which means a bill of £££'s

Asda are doing 4ltrs of fully synthetic 5-30w SaE 5W30: API SM/CF ACEA C3, Low SAPS/Low ash. for £20
and from what I can find it's A3 spec, so breaks down slower than A1.
